Walt's new HP is from the dv6000 series and even with the boot options, I couldn't get Ubuntu 7.10 running. I was able to get 7.04 running off the alternate CD but XWindows required a little extra help.

This is our first time running Ubuntu although I have been running various flavors of Linux for over a decade. The jury is still out on this distro IMO.

Walt, I'd email you this but I don't know your email address. I'm desperately looking for a CoM host for 11/30. If you're interested in hosting then, or even at a later date, please shoot me an email ASAP.

I have a HP Pavillion from the dv6000 series. Ubuntu 7.10 works perfectly. Also, as I recall from the compatibility lists, I think you have to make an effort to choose a model that's not supported.

The catch is that to install ubuntu on my laptop I need to perform some incantations, in the form of options passed to the kernel (noapic, nolapic, noirqpoll, nosmp) or else the live cd won't run.
