I thought Percolation was a well known part of mathematics. It should be anyway, it’s quite beatiful and people even claim it’s useful.
I think most people are aware of its existence, but that the details aren’t well-known. (I think that, of course, because I was aware of its existence, but I don’t really know the details.)
