Board of Topology Resigns
August 12th, 2006 by WaltPeter Woit reports that the entire editorial board of the journal Topology has resigned to protest the high cost of subscription to the journal. John Baez has posted the resignation letter here.

I think that the publisher has to keep the journal going at all costs, since if the former editors of Topology succeed in completely supplanting their erstwhile journal, the commercial publishers will lose control of mathematical publishing pretty quickly.
